Random Recognition
For Black History Month Random Recognition celebrates the achievements and community efforts of notable Black artists. Today we recognize PiM Alum Dionne Sims for opening Minnesota’s only Black-owned bookstore. Black Garnet Books is located on University Avenue West. With a $100,000 Neighborhood Sales Tax Revitalization (STAR) grant, Ms. Sims was able to renovate and open the first-ever physical spot, after the store operated for a year primarily as a pop-up at Merci Tattoo. Support Dionne Sims and check out Black Garnet Books.
