Word of the Day
Alex Stoner’s word of the day is bumbershoot. Which is an alteration of the words ‘umbrella’ and ‘parachute’, it literally means “umbrella”. Bumbershoot.
This Week’s Schedule
Remember, this week is conferences. Thursday will be an early release day and Friday is an asynchronous school day from home while the teachers have professional development in the building. Then Monday is a day off as we observe Presidents Day. School resumes on Tuesday.
Presidents Day
Officially Washington’s Birthday, is a holiday in the United States celebrated on the third Monday of February to honor all persons who served in the office of President of the United States. Washington was our first president but he was also a known slave owner.
Backpack Project Fundraiser
Members of the National Art Honor Society are starting a fundraiser for the Minnesota Backpack Project! This organization distributes backpacks filled with daily personal care items to homeless youth in the twin cities. There will be a list of donation items posted on your Advisory Google Classrooms, and on a poster in the cafeteria. This is also a school competition! The winning Advisory will get a breakfast treat (and maybe your advisor will participate? a prize like pie in the face? or shave their head? Sunnie may even get a tattoo in your honor! You can give your Advisor more ideas too.)
The competition will start now and close April 15th.
Thank you for aiding us as we provide items for twin cities homeless youth.
Random Recognition
For Black History Month Random Recognition celebrates the achievements and community efforts of notable Black artists. Today we recognize …Daniella Frazier. Daniella Frazier is the 17 year old who filmed the murder of George Floyd by four Minneapolis Police Officers on May 25, 2020. But for her courage to stand there and bear witness to police brutality and then post her recording to social media, the truth about Mr. Floyd’s death never would’ve come out. Nor would the country be able to witness the rare conviction of a police officer, former MPD officer Derek Chauvin one year later. Daniella – We salute you for exposing the truth about police brutality and Black people in America.
