Main Street students and staff had the pleasure of attending their first all-school field trip of the 2015-2016 school year. On the campus of the University of Minnesota at the newly remodeled Northrup Auditorium, Sean Curran Company presented “Dream’d in a Dream,” an original dance work featuring live musicians from the Krygyz Republic. The work is a result of the dance company’s cultural ambassadorship through the U.S. State Department to Central Asia, with musicians and dancers collaborating across multiple time zones via Skype and e-mail. It was remarkable to see art transcend cultural differences, as American Modern dance blended with Central Asian folk music to create a unique experience. The performance is available to the public this Saturday, October 24 at 8 pm.
All-school field trips are a part of enriching students’ cultural experiences in the local artistic community. Each year, students have the opportunity to attend a professional performance in music, theatre, and dance during the school day. Past field trips have included the Children’s Theatre Company, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Flying Foot Forum.
